How to seem more dateable and approachable?

I know guys notice me everywhere I go but I think I seem a bit unapproachable. Would it help if I just started saying hi to them more? How can I get the guy sitting next to me to strike up a conversation? How can I get guys to look at me as someone they would want to date?
