How should I give my kitty a bath?

My cat totally HATES water. Ive given her a bath before bit I want to make sure I do it completely right. She has really long fur that is constantly getting in the way in her litter box so... You can guess where I'm going with this. So what should I do to keep her calm and keep her from scratching my arms open?
