Can you take a kitten on holiday?

Around New Years time we are going to the beach for 2 weeks. Our kitten will be about 15ish weeks old. We will be staying in a house that the kitten will be aloud in so yeah, the drive is only about half an hour so I'm not too worried about that. We will bring a big play pen with a roof that the kitten will stay in when no ones around then he will sleep with me. Is this a good idea or not? Oh and we obviously don't have the kitten yet, I'm just thinking ahead in time to be prepared.
