Why do people get married and have kids?

And they don't do anything worth while with their lives. Some do and I'm proud of them, but a lot of people don't do anything better once they get married and have kids. I want to develops my own business and doing multiple jobs. I'm going to create cartoons kids will love. I want to write stories. I want to write movies that you will see one day. I want to help design the new mac computers. I can't imagine being tied down just cause society tells you to. Am I odd for thinking this? I know there are some family people who become successful but a majority of people don't get to be.
