What are some nice and interesting ways to text a guy hi?

A casual "hey how's it going?" is so boring. It needs to be mature, yet interesting/intriguing. The guy I'm texting just got back from a long vacation, so I'm hoping to go off that. I just don't want to get caught in that boring small talk that all people make
