how to make garrys mod work like it should?

Now right off the bat my comp specs Cpu: Phenom II 1090t 3.2GHz x 6 Ram: 16Gb 1333Mhz VideoCard: Xfx 7870 GHz Edition 2gb HDD: Seagate barracuda 1tb 7200rpm Now why would I have an average of 20fps on low intensity situations and essentially screenshots when it gets intense. My computer has way more than enough horsepower for Garrtys mod?
