What are you supposed to use to cut yourself?

OKAY FIRST OF ALL I DO NOT SELF HARM . I used to , though . I always used push-pins, but it seems like everyone else uses razor-blades.. My friend , who used to cut too , saw my scars and asked me what I used . I told her and she looked at me really weird . Are you supposed to use razorblades or ...? Thanks .
