How much is acceptable to spend on Christmas for teenagers?

We've always spent about five hundred each on our kids at Christmas. They are nearly 18 and 19 now and at uni and college. I feel it should be coming right down now. How much is acceptable to spend now? How much money do you spend on your 18 and 19 year olds for Christmas?
