How to ask my friend out on a date?

I have had feelings for a certain female friend for quite some time now, but now we have left school and gone to separate colleges before I got the chance to ask her out. I have no clue how or where to do it. We are very good friends as we are in the same social circle, but our group rarely meets up so I never have a chance to ask her. I am definitely going to ask her out in person so over Facebook is NOT an option. But I just have no idea how to do this without making it blatantly obvious what I'm going to ask her. She doesn't know that I like her. What do I say to her to get her to meet me somewere so I can ask? Or how can I ask? Btw we are both 18 and live in a small town where there aren't many places to go or meet up which makes it even more tricky. Thanks :)
