Can i write anything I want on Quinnipiac University's college essay?

This is the college admissions essay for Quinnipiac: Please tell us something about yourself that you would like us to know in at least 250 words. If you prefer, you may use a brief essay that you have developed on a topic or idea that you wish to submit as your college essay. Does this mean that i could write about anything, on any topic?? I would like to write about a certain topic that is no longer on the common app topics which is this one : Describe a character in fiction, a historical figure, or a creative work (as in art, music, science, etc.) that has had an influence on you, and explain that influence." Can i do that? The essay prompt for quinnipiac does clearly say "you may use a brief essay that you have developed on a topic or idea that you wish to submit as your college essay"
