Need help with graphics card?

I am looking at buy a new graphics card for my computer, currently using EVGA Geforce GTX 650. Looking to upgrade to the EVGA Geforce GTX 760. Just need help, my boyfriend says I want a graphics card with a high bit, but the only ones I see with a high bit are older graphics card. So is it better to have a higher or lower bit?
