Looking for a pub/bar in Manhattan to meet with friends?

I'm planning a meeting with about 5 friends next week. I'll be taking the train from NJ, getting dropped-off at Penn Station. There's a Ranger's game that night so I want to go away from MSG if possible - but ideally I don't want to take more than one train to get somewhere. Does anyone in the area or from experience have any recommendations? I'm thinking we will probably be doing drinks and snacks, not a whole meal.
