Pomegranate? Im confused?

ok so im going to eat pomegranate for the second time and the first time i smashed it to get to the seeds ...what i dont get is , Do you chew the seeds? like the pomegranate is the fruit itself which has alot of small seeds in it...but the seeds are surrounded by the red membrane which holds the juice....do you only sucks on the seeds to get the juices or do you chew the whole thing the seed which is inside the red membrane all together?
