How to soothe a dog's barking/seperation anxiety?

My dog has a very vocal time when I am away at school due to his social anxiety. I was wondering if there is a way to soothe his anxiety or control his barking? Please help, Im at the risk of losing my apartment due to his barking, but I just cant give my son up.
