Cable modem away from cable box?

So, the modem was in the living room before. I moved it to my room and now the home phone doesnt work. It use to be connected to the same splitter as the cable box and now it is connected to a different splitter that comes from the wall. It also lags a little more now. Does this have to do with the cable box or is it just an issue I can fix. I have Time Warner Cable internet by the way. Ask for more information if needed!
