Am i a Loser? or Are people really mean?

Maybe this is a stupid question, and I know i'm just starting, but i don't fit in anywhere at my school. I'm trying to get involved in drama club and cheer. But today was my first day at drama club and i almost cried in algebra because i had no friends in drama club. I'm really shy, but i still try to talk to people, but no matter how hard i try i just can't make decent friends. How do i fit in better? well not fit in but make friends?
