should I wait for an iphone?

Ok so I have an old android phone and an ipod touch 4g. I hate my phone and I almos tnever use it. I use my ipod a lot but its very old and slow and won't hold a charge. I can't get an iphone til my upgrade in s year and a half. Should I ask for an ipod touch 5 for christmas? Or just wait for an iphone? Is it worth it? Idk let me know what you think!
