What do liberals hope to accomplish by banning opinions?

Do they someone will say "I lost my job for voucing my opinion. Suddenly the thought of two men f***ing doesn't bother me!" Or that someone's spiritual beliefs will change simply because liberals don't agree? A person's beliefs and opinions are not something we can pick & choose. How will punishing people who think differently than you accomplish anything? Seems like it just makes people more adamant about disagreeing and less receptive to your perspective.
