Is there a such thing as the SINGLE TAX?

I worked this job for the first week and they when I checked my tax form I grossed 400 and I was taxed by the Federal Government with this thing call the "SINGLE TAX" what does this mean, Uncle Sam took 45.00 dollars out of my check.
