i love to use my notebook pc for long periods of time but the problem that i'm encountering is how?

to keep it cool? some people have suggested to use a laptop cooling pad but i don't know what you guys think? i have an hp pavilion g7-1219wm notebook pc but don't know if cooling pads really work or not? what do you guys who know about notebook pc's think that i should do? any thoughts, opinions, ect.........?????
