Would I be allowed to go see and R rated movie?

So I am fifteen and I love movies and since american hustle was just nominated for best picture I have to go see it. But since my dad thinks its a waste of time to sit in a movie theater for 2 and a half hours, he won't go. But he did say he would buy my ticket. So would I be able to go by myself if he bought my ticket?
