Broadband dropping when connecting laptop?

Hey, I have the BT broadband homehub 2.0, and when the laptop isn't connected everything works perfectly on my phone and game console. But as soon as I turn my laptop on, the broadband light begins flashing orange, then steady blue again, and then repeats the whole process so I end up with about 30 seconds of internet before it disconnects and does it all again. I have used 3 different ADSL filters and it still happened with all of them, so I know its not anything to do with that, I've changed the wireless channel in case it was interference and I've rung up BT who were no help whatsoever. The hub however does work when connecting it straight into the phone line but I really like the hub where it is which is out of the way. I'm not clued up when it comes to technology so could really do with some input.. Thanks in advance
