Is this a fake graduation picture?

So one of my cousin all of a sudden came home with a graduation picture. We didn't even know she went to uni. The pic has what looks like fake books and although she's facing towards the camera, her eyes are looking towards the left. Also there's none of her family with her. I have read somewhere that when books are in the background, it's normally fake.
