Teen diagnosed bipolar help?

Ok I'm a teen guy 18 and was diagnosed bipolar ll last year. After looking at other posts here I was wondering if hormones can cause such mood swings? Although I must say I have had people comment on my self esteem being noticeably low can teen hormones cause grandiose and low self worth. I just want to know if I was diagnosed correctly? As it is supposedly a lifelong disease? I did display all of the symptoms but can hormones cause inflated sense of self pressured speech etc?
