Why didn't the Spanish speaking American countries unite?

Like there are so many of them, especially in central America and a lot of them are tiny. The English ones united bar Canada but that was because all the loyalists fled there after the American war of independence. Also the portuguese one (Brazil) So why so many Spanish ones?
