How to install sims 2 double deluxe (and other expansion packs) - windows 8?

I just got a new computer from ncix and it came with windows 8. I asked the guy there if all my old games would run on it and he said that they would work. But now when I try and install the sims 2 double deluxe, it freezes at 34%. The disc itself is fine, no scratches and it's clean. I don't have any other version windows, and the only other computer I have is a Mac, and the sims 2 isn't compatible with that either. How do I install this freaking game?
