is it safe to drink out of an old drinking straw?

I was just wondering if i was able to safely drink out of a drinking straw that i found in my pantry that has been sitting in the straw-holder for about 3 years and after i washed it with water will it be ok to drink out of or is there still harmful bacteria on it? what do you think
