Question #14618302

Questions for people who are in the police force!?

A little over a year ago, one of my best friends opened up to me about something traumatic that had happened to him when he was younger. Since I've known him, he's been depressed but when he opened up to me about his past, I started seeing how depressed he really was. He never gets proper sleep and gets flashbacks and panic attacks in the middle of the night. I kept encouraging him to go for counseling but he refused. Anyway, at the time, he was telling me he wanted to be a cop and I didn't think he was fit for the job. After a year, he's said he's completely better now. He uses positive coping skills and opens up to more people. He said he doesn't get those panic attacks anymore unless it was something regarding his close friends. However, I know for a fact, he's still not sleeping properly. I still encourage therapy for him but he says how the police force wouldn't want him if they knew he had therapy. I know they want a person who is mentally stable but how true is that?
