Question #14668218

Breaking a student apartment lease due to feeling unsafe?

I live in student apartments, where each person has a separate lease. It is co-ed. My original third roommate ended up subleasing to a nearly 40 year old man. I am a 22 year old female. I do not feel safe when I'm home alone with him and lock my door and won't leave my room. I have been trying to sublease my apartment out so I can leave but it's harder than it seems. It's come to my attention from management that if it were two girls living in the apartment and I were to sublease to a male I would have to get a hand written note from them allowing it. I live with two males one of which is my friend and the other is the 40 year old man. So I don't need a handwritten notice in my case. But I'm wondering why I never had the option to give a handwritten statement to allow this older man live with us. Why does it matter when two girls live there but not one? Is this something I could use to just break my lease without consequences?
