Why does this girl always tell me the things people have been saying about me behind by back?

I'm friends with this girl and if I ever mention a past situation she tells me 'oh yes, we were all talking about that and how you were late' or if I mention about our book group, she will tell me 'Cameron told me that you lost the books for the group one week' - but these things she tells me are things which happened months ago. She also told me that a group of guys were talking about me and about how I turned up in sports wearing a bright orange t-shirt. It makes me feel really rubbish when I hear secondhand information out like this. Why does she feel the need to tell me the bad things people are saying about me behind my back?
