Can frequent braids cause dry split ends?

I constantly wear my hair in braids. From box braids to cornrows. I don t flatiron my hair and I barely blow dry it. However after years I finally flat ironed my hair and my ends are dry! Is this from my constant braids? I try to trim my hair in between styles
