Is my bromeliad dying?

So I m definitely not a plant person, but I really liked the way this plant looked when I first purchased it at Lowes. From my perspective, I do not think it has flowered but where the leaves at the top used to be red, they are now brownish color. I ve watered it and have it in a small pot since I was told that they do better in that type rather than a large. The leaves at the base are still green. I do not want to repot if it s dead.
