Windows 8 Email Notifcations New Messages?

Just switched to a win8 pc. When I check my Hotmail it's taking me to outlook online, I can't install messenger cuz they're doing away with it & replacing it with Skype, which doesn't seem to be a very complex program. On my win7 pc I had messenger set to play a tone when new mail came in, is there something that would allow me to do this on the win8 pc?
