I'm putting a new clutch in my 2005 Mitsubishi eclipse GTS. I have the transmission separated from the engine and supported.?

There is a retaining clip on the throw out bearing that wont allow the transmission to be completely removed. I can only move the transmission about an inch from the engine. How do you pop that clip away from the throw out bearing so the gear box can be removed.
