What is the best way to edit a part of a music video for an actor's demo reel?

I have a friend who I am making a demo reel for. He has been in tv shows, commercials and music videos, so i'm wanting to showcase short clips of each of those. I'm looking for the best way to compile his best work into the reel, but I'm not sure how to go about slicing up this music video to show the parts that he is in without mixing up the different parts of the music. I feel like that will turn out awkward. Should I just have the song playing in the background of this scene, during the reel, while showing the different clips of him from the music video, so that it doesn't chop the audio?
