Prednisolone liquid makes my cat froth at the mouth?

Is it normal for prednisolone to make a cat do that? And why does it smell like cherry? I got this from the vet and it wasn't sealed. Do all vets package it themselves? I have bought it in pill form for another cat before and that was easier for it to take.
