How to tell what key something is in?

My teacher asked me to go through the concerto I'm learning and mark what key each phrase is in. I'm mostly having trouble with telling if it's major or minor. Without listening to it, how am I supposed to tell? Also, how am I supposed to know when an accidental is part of the modulation or if it's just a funky note? Thanks
