Can you still get your money back from credit card theft after a year later?

My card was stolen about a year ago & was used to buy about $200 worth of stuff. I am in college and I had rented textbooks and was supposed to have them turned in on a certain date (which i missed), so they were supposed to be charged to my card. It was around the same time so I thought that's what those charges were. Now the school has contacted me about my books, so those charges were NOT from that. My money was stolen. Is it to late to do anything about it now? Also..when this happened the bank contacted me about credit card fraud& gave me a number to call so that I could tell them why I should get the money back, but because I didn't think it was stolen.. I didn't do that.
