My audio-recording software isn't working?

I recently downloaded Audacity for a project I have to do. I'm trying to use a microphone on a headset to record audio, but the program doesn't list it as an input device. I tried enabling it in my computer's control panel, but it doesn't show up. I'm using a Turtle Beach Ear Force XL1 as my recording device. Is there a problem with the software, or is it the equipment?
