How long will it take till shoulder heals?

My dad dislocated his shoulder on the 28/8 and it took hospital staff 3 attempts to put it back in with difficulty as there was tissue in there stopping it going back in and if that attempt failed he would need surgery, it worked but this far down the line he is still in alot of pain and getting stiff neck, he is 78 yrs old and we said it would take longer for shoulder and damaged muscle to heal but he is very impatient and in abit of pain, physio and doctors all say it will take time. Dad wants another x-ray to see but they have just dismissed this. Should he persist on x-ray and could there be more wrong than just muscle pain. Anyone had similar experience and what was the result, wait or more investigations?
