Hair question- dying/ stripping?

Tomorrow I am going to get my hair cut pixie short but first I want to dye it blonde. I have naturally a mousey coloured hair but its dark brown at the moment. I was wandering is it best to strip my hair of the existing colour and then put blonde hair dye on top or to just put the blonde on top of the brown? What would people suggest I do?
