Ramadan- where do some non Muslims get this idea from?

Why do so many think if a girl (and not even a guy just a girl) does something like has a boyfriend, she'll get acid thrown at her? Where in the world do they get that from? If Muslims have done that, it's NOT a part of Islam, at all.
