Bleeding at 8 1/2 weeks pregnant?

I'm 8 1/2 weeks pregnant and I started to get cramps and started bleeding this morning. I heard that women bleed during pregnancy sometimes though but this feels exactly like a period. Is that normal? Should I be worried? If I were to bleed any shouldn't I just be spotting? And has anyone bled to the point of it being a mild period while you were pregnant? Any answers or experiences are greatly appreciated!
