do you need to study drama at high school to be able to do it in american university/college?

iv been looking at universities in america as in international student (im from the UK) and i dont quite understand the system the SAT test and it says you can pick your major a year after starting im confused does it matter what i studied before to go to uni in america or does it matter the grades i get or the SAT test score? i diddnt do drama at high school GCSE or A-level in school and i found a few UK unis who will let u in without doing it but what about america could i do it there?
