Would you keep waiting on this guy or give up?

Ive known him for a year and have liked him this whole time, even though I havnt really told him or anybody else at college as they talk ALOT and word would get back to him for sure which I dont want. He has always asked me about myself, my weekend plans, how I am, opens doors for me etc but my friend said thats nothing cos he flirts with everybody but he has always been shy with me. But I have found out recently hes in a 'casual relationship' which is making me doubt it all. Should I keep waiting on the hope that anything will happen with this guy, if hes a player or not, or should I give up on him? Its just so difficult! What would you do?
