How to fix a bad ESN number?

Im considering buying an iphone that was originally for sprint, but it has a bad ESN number. My carrier is t mobile so i would be using it for that. Is there any way to fix a bad ESN and would you even recommend buying this phone with the problem it has? Any info helps, thanks.
