Question #5940943

Why do people care when people die only when they see it on the news?

People call me insensitive because I don't care about a couple people dying who I don't know somewhere. But why should I care just because it is on the news. People die all the time who just don't make the news because they weren't killed in a newsworthy way. Why should I spend even one minute of my day caring about people I have never met. Most of the time I feel like they are not actually upset either they are just taking such opportunities to support some meaningless cause that will inevitably hurt more people and waste resources. Why don't more people look at the big picture rather than some little thing that doesn't really matter in the long run?
