Can an orthopedic determine the time when you got nerve damage?

If you suffered nerve damage at work but didn't report it and afraid of getting fired for reporting it late. Will an orthopedic be able to determine the time when you hurt yourself? Also the injury is a few days old and is kind of hard to work with.
