My laptops DvD drive doesnt work?

Idk how it happened but for some reason my DvD Drive does not have the blue dot in the middle that reads the CD's (blueray reader?). apparently it fell off or something so my computer cannot read any disks. I want to know if i need to unscrew the disk drive harrdware and take it to the store so they can find me a compatible one or do can i buy any disk drive that fits my laptop?
