Full screen YouTube not full screen?

When I click on full screen on YouTube (yes, im 100% sure i clicked full screen) it isnt completely full screen. its pretty much the same size as the normal video but in the corner and black on the bottom and sides of my screen. its been like this for a while and its a little frustrating when i want to watch something in full screen. any ideas?
